Working towards electron microscopies interoperability

The “EM Glossary” group is one example of an HMC supported group collaborating to develop harmonised and interoperable semantics at the domain level.

The EM Glossary Initiative, supported by the Helmholtz Metadata Collaboration (HMC), aims to standardize electron microscopy terminology through a community-driven process. This initiative involves a not-for-profit collaboration between domain scientists, method experts, knowledge engineers, and metadata stewards, enhancing collaboration and data interoperability across disciplines. The glossary offers clear definitions, a machine-readable OWL artifact, and a web-app for convenient exploration.

Join one of our regular development meetings to contribute. Check the schedule here. All contributions are logged in our micro-crediting system using ORCiD. We value your input. If you want to stay informed (and potentially join in later) you can:

Contribute to the EM Glossary by submitting new terms or feedback, and join our initiative to improve the field’s interoperability. Check out our documentation to learn more.
