Both GitHub and Gitlab now support S/Mime signing of Git commits and display a proper Verified
button along with the commit information. On GitLab, MR!207612 needs to be merged in order to fix some bugs. This blog post describes on how to setup and use signing of Git commits on Windows, Mac and Linux machines.

Target Audience
Helmholtz scientists who have access to X509 certificates and want to use them for their Git commits as well.
