+Coordinated by DESY, HIFIS fostered a service agreement with the German National Research and Education Network (DFN) 
+on operating a a Helmholtz-wide Virtual Private Network (Helmholtz Backbone). 
+The VPN shall cover the majority of Helmholtz centres.

+Currently 14 centres have agreed on the contract.
+Besides DESY, these are: AWI, GEOMAR, KIT, GSI, UFZ, HZB, GFZ, HZI, DKFZ, HZDR, HZG, MDC, and 
+HMGU (Deutsches Forschungszentrum für Gesundheit und Umwelt, Neuherberg). 
+
+FZJ is fostering a separate agreement, in coordination with the other centres.
+
+By September, the first pilot VPN installations are being set-up between DESY, DKFZ, KIT, and HZDR.
+
+By January 2021, it is expected to have the first production Virtual Private Network (Helmholtz Backbone) 
+connections running (see [HIFIS Roadmap]({% link roadmap/index.md %})).

+#### Homepage and Documentation
+The [HIFIS homepage](https://www.hifis.net) 
+as well as the [Public HIFIS Documentation](https://www.hifis.net/doc) have been restructured and relaunched. 
+
+The new workflow uses best-practices continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) workflow to streamline collaborative contribution to the homepage and the documentation.

+The workflows are based on [Jekyll](https://jekyllrb.com/) and [MkDocs](https://www.mkdocs.org/). 
+
+The corresponding repositories are hosted in Gitlab at HZDR and are publicly accessible. You can find them

+## Start of HIFIS Helpdesk
+
+A common contact point for all queries and support requests shall be introduced. This will be realized using a ticketing system, allowing to distribute tasks related to the different HIFIS clusters, especially Cloud Services and Software Services.
