Revise and reorganize the Fundamentals Section

The Fundamentals section of the documentation has been revised and reorganized.

Specifically:

• The landing page of the section has been redesigned with a better layout.
• Most internal cross-references have been resolved.
• A new page on polynomial regression.

The MR does not contain any functionality changes to the codebase.

This MR should resolve Issue #181 (closed).
